The route Isabelle Fijalkowski took into university basketball

Centre / power forward (6-5)

French

Athlavia had no involvement with Isabelle Fijalkowski. She has not used this product, is not connected to it and has not endorsed it. Everything on this page about her is drawn from the published sources listed at the foot, and cited so you can read the originals. The sentences about what an association’s rules permit are ours; they are statements about a rulebook, they are marked as such where they appear, and they are not about her.

No photograph. Roster images belong to the universities and photographers who made them.

Before university
The route Isabelle Fijalkowski took, drawn as the levels she played at, in the order her sources place them.
Before university: France. Her sources describe this in words, not as a level.
Stop 1: University of Colorado at Boulder (Buffaloes), NCAA Division I.

One institution on the record: University of Colorado at Boulder (Buffaloes), NCAA Division I. 74 of the 110 routes documented here include a stop on that row. The rows above and below are the frame of reference, not places she was.

Left to right is the order the sources place her stops in. It is not a time axis: 54 of the 181 stops recorded across this site carry a bare pair of dates and the rest are prose, so the years are printed as written, in the list below.

The rows are the NCAA’s own three divisions, plus two dashed rows for everything outside them. NAIA and U SPORTS are separate associations rather than a lower NCAA tier, and nothing in these records ranks them against it; the two-year colleges sit at the foot because a junior college is an institution players transfer on from, which the records do say. The shaded bar behind each row is how many of the 110 routes documented here include a stop at that level.

The institution on the record

Printed as written. The drawing above compresses these; this list does not, because every caveat in the research lives inside these sentences.

  1. 1

University of Colorado at Boulder (Buffaloes)

    NCAA DI

    NCAA Division I

    Big Eight Conference

    1994-1995; first-team All-Big Eight in 1995

What these levels are, and what money can exist at them

These are facts about rulebooks. They apply to everyone at that level, and none of them is a statement about her.

NCAA Division I

This association permits athletic scholarships. Whether any particular player received one, and how much of one, is not published.

What the rules actually say at NCAA Division I

Where she was before she left

Born in Clermont-Ferrand. Played in France for Montferrand (1988-1991), Challes-les-Eaux (1991-1992) and Clermont-Ferrand (1992-1994) before going to the United States.

What happened, in the sources’ account

After six years in the French club system she spent a single year at the University of Colorado in 1994-95 and earned first-team All-Big Eight honours. She returned straight to France to play for CJM Bourges Basket, joined the Cleveland Rockers in the WNBA's first seasons, and averaged 12.8 points and 6.2 rebounds across 56 WNBA games. She won 200 caps for France and EuroBasket gold in 2001, and is in both the French Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

What is known about money

Athletic scholarships are permitted at every level on this route. That is a fact about the rulebook, not about her.

No source we fetched states what she received, if anything.

6 of the 110 routes documented here have a source stating any financial term at all. The other 104 do not, and that is normal rather than a gap in the research: a university announces a signing as a roster addition, and what a player was offered stays between her and the programme. Read silence as silence.

What our researchers found about money

No source states anything about money.

Copied without editing. Like the checking notes further down, some of these sentences are instructions to the person writing this page rather than statements about her.

No source consulted states a scholarship amount, percentage or any financial term.

What happened since

CJM Bourges Basket (1995-97); Cleveland Rockers in the WNBA (1997-98, 56 games); Pool Comense 1872 in Italy (1997-2000); Union Sportive Valenciennes Olympic (2000-02). 200 caps for France, EuroBasket gold 2001, silver 1993 and 1999, fifth at the 2000 Olympics, ninth at the 1994 World Championship. French Basketball Hall of Fame 2011; Women's Basketball Hall of Fame 2026.

No retrieval date is stored against these sources, so treat anything time-sensitive — a current club, a current roster — as needing a fresh check.

Athlavia’s note on this route

Everything above is drawn from the sources. This is our editorial judgement about why the route is worth showing, and it is the only opinion on this page.

This is the recognition name, and the useful part is what it does not prove: the US college year was one season inside a career built in France and Italy, not a substitute for it. Families should not read a US degree or a US roster place as the whole career.

She is an outlier. Read her next to the junior-college and Division II routes rather than as the benchmark.

This set has not been through the balancing pass, so it may over-represent Division I.

What we could not confirm

These are the checking pass’s own notes, copied without editing. They address the person writing this page, which is why some are phrased as instructions. They are published because a list of what we removed is worth more than an assurance that we checked.

What the second pass removed or corrected

  • RESOLVED: the previous draft flagged an 'unexplained gap' between leaving Montferrand in 1991 and Colorado in 1994. There is no gap - the source lists Challes-les-Eaux 1991-92 and Clermont-Ferrand 1992-94. Her college year is a SINGLE season, 1994-95, not a multi-year career. Do not imply she took a four-year US degree.
  • REMOVED as unverified: that she was taken by Cleveland in a '1997 WNBA Elite Draft'; that Pool Comense won Italian championships in 1998 and 1999; and the count of five French league titles and two Italian championships. None of these appear in what I read.

What is still unknown

  • She is a Hall of Famer - exactly the exceptional case the page is meant to de-emphasise. Frame her as recognition only, never as an achievable target.
  • The Italian and WNBA club years overlap in the source (Cleveland 1997-98 alongside Comense 1997-2000), which is normal for that era's summer/winter calendars. Do not present them as contradictory or resolve them by guessing.

One further note in our file is not published here. A note is withheld when it states a date of birth or an age, names a relative, or is an internal editorial instruction about which records to keep.

Our own summary above carried her date of birth. It has been taken out, by the same rule that withholds the notes above: it is on no route, it explains nothing about one, and it is the most identifying thing in our file about a living woman who did not ask to be in it. Nothing else in those paragraphs has been changed.

Researcher’s own rating: 72 out of 100. This is the checking agent’s self-assessment, not a measurement. Across the 110 records it runs from 62 to 93, so the source count above it tells you more.

This page describes a public sporting record: where she played, at what level, and what published sources say about that. It carries no photograph, no date of birth and no contact details, and we do not report anything about her health beyond what her own sources state and what the route requires.

If you are Isabelle Fijalkowski, or represent her, and want anything here corrected or this page removed, write to support@athlavia.com and we will act on it.
