The route Laura Toffali took into university basketball

Guard (listed as "Shooter" on the Morehead State roster; 5-9)

Italian

Athlavia had no involvement with Laura Toffali. She has not used this product, is not connected to it and has not endorsed it. Everything on this page about her is drawn from the published sources listed at the foot, and cited so you can read the originals. The sentences about what an association’s rules permit are ours; they are statements about a rulebook, they are marked as such where they appear, and they are not about her.

No photograph. Roster images belong to the universities and photographers who made them.

Before university
The route Laura Toffali took, drawn as the levels she played at, in the order her sources place them.
Before university: Italy. Her sources describe this in words, not as a level.
Stop 1: Kennesaw State University, NCAA Division I.
Stop 2: Missouri Western State University, NCAA Division II.
Stop 3: Morehead State University, NCAA Division I.

Three stops: NCAA Division I, then NCAA Division II — down a division, in the NCAA's own numbering, then NCAA Division I — up a division. No other woman among the 108 documented here followed this sequence of levels.

This route includes moves in both directions of the NCAA's own numbering. Every move is drawn in the same weight and the same colour, whichever way it went, because the graphic does not rank the levels it draws. 9 of the 110 routes documented here include a move to a higher-numbered division. This drawing carries no reason for any move; where her sources give one, it is in the account below.

Left to right is the order the sources place her stops in. It is not a time axis: 54 of the 181 stops recorded across this site carry a bare pair of dates and the rest are prose, so the years are printed as written, in the list below.

The rows are the NCAA’s own three divisions, plus two dashed rows for everything outside them. NAIA and U SPORTS are separate associations rather than a lower NCAA tier, and nothing in these records ranks them against it; the two-year colleges sit at the foot because a junior college is an institution players transfer on from, which the records do say. The shaded bar behind each row is how many of the 110 routes documented here include a stop at that level.

The stops, as the sources record them

Printed as written. The drawing above compresses these; this list does not, because every caveat in the research lives inside these sentences.

What these levels are, and what money can exist at them

These are facts about rulebooks. They apply to everyone at that level, and none of them is a statement about her.

NCAA Division I

This association permits athletic scholarships. Whether any particular player received one, and how much of one, is not published.

What the rules actually say at NCAA Division I

NCAA Division II

This association permits athletic scholarships. Whether any particular player received one, and how much of one, is not published.

What the rules actually say at NCAA Division II

Where she was before she left

Limonta Costa Masnaga in Lombardy, listed as her high school on the Missouri Western roster. Home town Villasanta, Italy. The Missouri Western page records that she played at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship.

What happened, in the sources’ account

Toffali left Costa Masnaga for Kennesaw State, where she was a squad player: in 2023-24 she appeared in all 30 games and averaged 3.5 points, and her Kennesaw State career totalled 114 points, 33 steals, 31 rebounds and 21 assists. Rather than stop there she dropped a level, to Missouri Western in NCAA Division II, and became a starter - 30 games, 23 starts, 9.1 points and 3.9 rebounds a game and 61 steals in 2024-25. That season earned her a move back up to Division I at Morehead State, where she started all 33 games, set a programme record with 101 steals, averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds, and was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-OVC Second Team.

What is known about money

Athletic scholarships are permitted at every level on this route. That is a fact about the rulebook, not about her.

No source we fetched states what she received, if anything.

6 of the 110 routes documented here have a source stating any financial term at all. The other 104 do not, and that is normal rather than a gap in the research: a university announces a signing as a roster addition, and what a player was offered stays between her and the programme. Read silence as silence.

What our researchers found about money

No source states anything about money.

Copied without editing. Like the checking notes further down, some of these sentences are instructions to the person writing this page rather than statements about her.

No source we fetched states any scholarship, amount, percentage or financial term for Toffali. The three roster pages record only her athletic participation and honours. We do not know what, if any, athletic aid she received.

What happened since

Completed the 2025-26 season at Morehead State. No professional signing is published in any source we fetched.

No retrieval date is stored against these sources, so treat anything time-sensitive — a current club, a current roster — as needing a fresh check.

Athlavia’s note on this route

Everything above is drawn from the sources. This is our editorial judgement about why the route is worth showing, and it is the only opinion on this page.

This is the single most useful shape of story for a family to see. Her first landing spot did not work out athletically, and the answer was not to come home but to move down a division, play, and earn her way back up. Division II here functioned as a proving ground, not a consolation prize. It also shows a career is measured over four years and three institutions, not by where you sign at eighteen.

This set has not been through the balancing pass, so it may over-represent Division I.

What we could not confirm

These are the checking pass’s own notes, copied without editing. They address the person writing this page, which is why some are phrased as instructions. They are published because a list of what we removed is worth more than an assurance that we checked.

What the second pass removed or corrected

  • CORRECTED from the previous draft: the claim that she played 'eight games as a freshman' at Kennesaw State is not supported by anything we fetched and has been removed.
  • CORRECTED: the two roster pages disagree on her 2023-24 starts at Kennesaw State - Missouri Western says two, Morehead State says three. Do not print a starts figure.
  • CORRECTED: her Missouri Western season was 30 games with 23 starts, per the Morehead State bio. The Missouri Western roster page itself carries no statistics for her.

What is still unknown

  • The PlayItUSA article, written mid-season, gives 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds; the Morehead State end-of-season bio gives 12.4 and 4.7. Use the official roster figures.
  • Do not print a conference name for the Kennesaw State years - no source we fetched states one, and the school changed conference in 2024.
  • Her academic major is not published on any roster page we read - do not invent one.
  • 1 of her 3 stops carries no conference we could establish.

One further note in our file is not published here. A note is withheld when it states a date of birth or an age, names a relative, or is an internal editorial instruction about which records to keep.

Researcher’s own rating: 88 out of 100. This is the checking agent’s self-assessment, not a measurement. Across the 110 records it runs from 62 to 93, so the source count above it tells you more.
