The route Lana Wenger took into university basketball

Forward / Centre

Swiss

Athlavia had no involvement with Lana Wenger. She has not used this product, is not connected to it and has not endorsed it. Everything on this page about her is drawn from the published sources listed at the foot, and cited so you can read the originals. The sentences about what an association’s rules permit are ours; they are statements about a rulebook, they are marked as such where they appear, and they are not about her.

No photograph. Roster images belong to the universities and photographers who made them.

The route Lana Wenger took, drawn as the levels she played at, in the order her sources place them.
Before university: Switzerland. Her sources describe this in words, not as a level.
Stop 1: Texas Tech University, NCAA Division I.
Stop 2: Portland State University, NCAA Division I.

Two stops, both NCAA Division I. The line is flat because the level did not change, not because nothing happened. 14 of the 108 women documented here followed the same sequence of levels.

Left to right is the order the sources place her stops in. It is not a time axis: 54 of the 181 stops recorded across this site carry a bare pair of dates and the rest are prose, so the years are printed as written, in the list below.

The rows are the NCAA’s own three divisions, plus two dashed rows for everything outside them. NAIA and U SPORTS are separate associations rather than a lower NCAA tier, and nothing in these records ranks them against it; the two-year colleges sit at the foot because a junior college is an institution players transfer on from, which the records do say. The shaded bar behind each row is how many of the 110 routes documented here include a stop at that level.

The stops, as the sources record them

Printed as written. The drawing above compresses these; this list does not, because every caveat in the research lives inside these sentences.

What these levels are, and what money can exist at them

These are facts about rulebooks. They apply to everyone at that level, and none of them is a statement about her.

NCAA Division I

This association permits athletic scholarships. Whether any particular player received one, and how much of one, is not published.

What the rules actually say at NCAA Division I

Where she was before she left

Hometown listed by Portland State as Hersberg, Switzerland. She did not go directly from Switzerland to college: her Portland State record gives her high school as Futures Academy / Monte Vista HS, in Walnut Creek and Danville, California respectively, and her signing announcement records that she averaged 13.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game as a sophomore at Monte Vista.

What happened, in the sources’ account

Wenger spent two seasons at Texas Tech in the Big 12, where she 'played in 41 games for the Red Raiders, averaging 2.4 minutes per game as a freshman and 4.7 minutes per game as a sophomore', with a career high of five points scored three separate times. She transferred to Portland State in the Big Sky and started at once, starting 27 of her 29 appearances in 2023-24 for 6.3 points and 3.9 rebounds a game. In 2024-25 she appeared in 23 of 28 games, starting 19, and averaged 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds. She was listed on Switzerland's EuroBasket Women 2025 roster as a 1.93 m centre.

What is known about money

Athletic scholarships are permitted at every level on this route. That is a fact about the rulebook, not about her.

A source does state a financial term for her. It states no sum of money: no amount, no percentage and no duration. The quotation is below.

6 of the 110 routes documented here have a source stating any financial term at all. The other 104 do not, and that is normal rather than a gap in the research: a university announces a signing as a roster addition, and what a player was offered stays between her and the programme. Read silence as silence.

What our researchers found about money

A source states a financial term. It states no sum of money.

Copied without editing. Like the checking notes further down, some of these sentences are instructions to the person writing this page rather than statements about her.

Portland State's own signing announcement states that she 'has signed a grant-in-aid to play for the Vikings next season'. That is the exact wording. No amount, percentage or duration is published, and nothing at all is published about her Texas Tech arrangement or about how her American high-school years were paid for.

What happened since

She appears on Switzerland's EuroBasket Women 2025 national-team roster, listed there with Portland State. She is no longer on the Portland State roster as of 2026-27. We did not verify any professional club contract.

No retrieval date is stored against these sources, so treat anything time-sensitive — a current club, a current roster — as needing a fresh check.

Athlavia’s note on this route

Everything above is drawn from the sources. This is our editorial judgement about why the route is worth showing, and it is the only opinion on this page.

Two lessons in one career. First, the power-conference offer is not the goal: two years in the Big 12 produced 41 appearances at under five minutes a game, while her first season in the Big Sky produced 27 starts. The smaller conference was where she actually played. Second, her route ran through American high schools rather than straight from a Swiss club, which is a materially different and more expensive path, and families should recognise it for what it is rather than reading her as a European club recruit.

This set has not been through the balancing pass, so it may over-represent Division I.

What we could not confirm

These are the checking pass’s own notes, copied without editing. They address the person writing this page, which is why some are phrased as instructions. They are published because a list of what we removed is worth more than an assurance that we checked.

What the second pass removed or corrected

  • CORRECTED: the previous draft implied the Portland State starting role only arrived in 2024-25. In fact she started 27 of 29 games in her first season there, in 2023-24. The contrast with Texas Tech is sharper than the draft said, not weaker.

What is still unknown

  • The hometown discrepancy is resolved in favour of the official source: Portland State's roster, its bio and its signing release all say Hersberg, Switzerland. Use that, or say 'from the Basel area'.
  • 'Grant-in-aid' is the source's own term. Reproduce it verbatim. Do not translate it into 'full scholarship', a euro figure or a percentage.
  • Because she went through US high schools, do not present her as an example of being recruited out of a European club.

One further note in our file is not published here. A note is withheld when it states a date of birth or an age, names a relative, or is an internal editorial instruction about which records to keep.

Our own summary above carried her date of birth. It has been taken out, by the same rule that withholds the notes above: it is on no route, it explains nothing about one, and it is the most identifying thing in our file about a living woman who did not ask to be in it. Nothing else in those paragraphs has been changed.

Researcher’s own rating: 92 out of 100. This is the checking agent’s self-assessment, not a measurement. Across the 110 records it runs from 62 to 93, so the source count above it tells you more.
