The route Mariella Fasoula took into university basketball
Centre / forward (listed 6'5" by Vanderbilt, 6'4" on Wikipedia)
Greek
Athlavia had no involvement with Mariella Fasoula. She has not used this product, is not connected to it and has not endorsed it. Everything on this page about her is drawn from the published sources listed at the foot, and cited so you can read the originals. The sentences about what an association’s rules permit are ours; they are statements about a rulebook, they are marked as such where they appear, and they are not about her.
No photograph. Roster images belong to the universities and photographers who made them.

One of 110 routes documented, covering 108 women. See all of them.
The route
Two stops, both NCAA Division I. The line is flat because the level did not change, not because nothing happened. 14 of the 108 women documented here followed the same sequence of levels.
Left to right is the order the sources place her stops in. It is not a time axis: 54 of the 181 stops recorded across this site carry a bare pair of dates and the rest are prose, so the years are printed as written, in the list below.
The rows are the NCAA’s own three divisions, plus two dashed rows for everything outside them. NAIA and U SPORTS are separate associations rather than a lower NCAA tier, and nothing in these records ranks them against it; the two-year colleges sit at the foot because a junior college is an institution players transfer on from, which the records do say. The shaded bar behind each row is how many of the 110 routes documented here include a stop at that level.
The stops, as the sources record them
Printed as written. The drawing above compresses these; this list does not, because every caveat in the research lives inside these sentences.

What these levels are, and what money can exist at them
These are facts about rulebooks. They apply to everyone at that level, and none of them is a statement about her.
NCAA Division I
This association permits athletic scholarships. Whether any particular player received one, and how much of one, is not published.
Where she was before she left
Home town Athens; born Marousi, Greece, 2 September 1997. Wikipedia lists Proteas Voulas as her club from 2013 to 2015. Vanderbilt lists her schooling as the American Community School in Athens, having previously attended Lausanne Collegiate School in Tennessee.
What happened, in the sources’ account
Fasoula went from Athens to Boston College, where she started 26 of 30 games as a freshman for 13.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a game, then led the team as a sophomore with 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. She transferred to Vanderbilt, where the sources show no play in 2017-18 - consistent with the transfer sit-out rule of the era. She made it back: All-SEC second team in 2018-19 with a team-high 15.9 points and 7.2 rebounds a game and 29 points at Mississippi State, then a fifth-year season in which she started all 30 games for 13.3 points and 6.6 rebounds, shot .535 from the field (fifth in the SEC), was SEC Player of the Week in December and made the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list. She went undrafted in 2020 and has played professionally in Spain, Turkey, Greece and, per Wikipedia, was listed with Toronto Tempo in 2026.
What is known about money
Athletic scholarships are permitted at every level on this route. That is a fact about the rulebook, not about her.
No source we fetched states what she received, if anything.
6 of the 110 routes documented here have a source stating any financial term at all. The other 104 do not, and that is normal rather than a gap in the research: a university announces a signing as a roster addition, and what a player was offered stays between her and the programme. Read silence as silence.
No source states anything about money.
Copied without editing. Like the checking notes further down, some of these sentences are instructions to the person writing this page rather than statements about her.
No source we fetched states any scholarship, amount, percentage or financial term for Fasoula. Her Vanderbilt bio covers playing history, schooling, honours and family only.
What happened since
Undrafted in the 2020 WNBA draft. Wikipedia lists Al-Qazeres (2020-21), Clarinos Tenerife (2021), CB Avenida (2021-2025) in Spain, Besiktas (2025-26) in Turkey, Toronto Tempo (2026) and Athinaikos in Greece (2026-present). Greek international at EuroBasket Women 2017 and 2023.
No retrieval date is stored against these sources, so treat anything time-sensitive — a current club, a current roster — as needing a fresh check.
Athlavia’s note on this route
Everything above is drawn from the sources. This is our editorial judgement about why the route is worth showing, and it is the only opinion on this page.
Useful as a realistic version of a 'good outcome'. She was an All-SEC player from a basketball family and still went undrafted; what five years in the USA actually bought her was a degree-length education and a professional career, not a WNBA lottery ticket. It also shows the real cost of transferring at the time - a season without play - which families should factor in.
She is an outlier. Read her next to the junior-college and Division II routes rather than as the benchmark.
This set has not been through the balancing pass, so it may over-represent Division I.
What we could not confirm
These are the checking pass’s own notes, copied without editing. They address the person writing this page, which is why some are phrased as instructions. They are published because a list of what we removed is worth more than an assurance that we checked.
What the second pass removed or corrected
- CORRECTED from the previous draft: the 'Lisa Leslie award watch list' claim is not in either source we read and has been removed. The Ann Meyers Drysdale watch list is confirmed.
- CORRECTED: the Vanderbilt bio lists BOTH a postseason 'All-SEC second team' (2018-19) and a 'preseason All-SEC second team' (2019-20). Do not merge or duplicate these two, and do not describe the preseason honour as an award won.
- CORRECTED: the previous draft asserted she 'had to sit out the entire 2017-18 season'. Neither source states this in terms; both simply show Boston College through 2017 and Vanderbilt play from 2018-19, with a fifth-year classification in 2019-20. Phrase it as consistent with the rule of the era, not as a documented ruling.
What is still unknown
- The transfer sit-out rule of that era no longer works the same way - do not present it as current advice.
- Her professional club sequence and the Toronto Tempo listing come from Wikipedia only; re-verify before printing a current club.
- Height differs between sources: Vanderbilt says 6-5, Wikipedia 6'4".
- 1 of her 2 stops carries no conference we could establish.
One further note in our file is not published here. A note is withheld when it states a date of birth or an age, names a relative, or is an internal editorial instruction about which records to keep.
Researcher’s own rating: 88 out of 100. This is the checking agent’s self-assessment, not a measurement. Across the 110 records it runs from 62 to 93, so the source count above it tells you more.

Athlavia had no involvement with Mariella Fasoula. We did not advise, represent or place her, and we do not know her.
This page describes a public sporting record: where she played, at what level, and what published sources say about that. It carries no photograph, no date of birth and no contact details, and we do not report anything about her health beyond what her own sources state and what the route requires.
If you are Mariella Fasoula, or represent her, and want anything here corrected or this page removed, write to support@athlavia.com and we will act on it.
